ONLINE summer classes

Vegas Theatre Company is proud to present two weeks of virtual theatre classes for all ages! Join us from the comfort (and safety) of your own home with amazing instructors based right here in Las Vegas. From weeklong classes to one day masterclasses, learn what goes into being a good actor and what it takes to make the magic happen backstage. With affordable prices (including free classes for those under 9) join us for a fun filled couple of weeks!

ON THE RADIO

Full Week - July 13-17th

10am – 11:30am

Did you know that before there was television, there were radio dramas? In this class, explore how voice acting, sound foley, and storytelling come together to create one riveting tale. Students will expand their acting and storytelling skills to culminate in sharing a short radio play. This class may be structured to include tasks away from a computer screen to allow for independent learning during instruction.

 

Ages: 11-14 (Read to a 5th grade level)

IMPROV MASTERCLASS

Monday July 13

12pm - 1:30pm

In this fun and creative environment, students learn the fundamentals of improv beginning with the all-important adage “yes, and…” From there, they will practice creating stories without scripts or rehearsal using a wide variety of improv techniques, formats, and games.

SOUND ON!

Tuesday July 14

1pm - 3pm

A cool breeze, high heels on a wood floor, nails down a chalkboard; ever wonder how those sounds are made for tv, movies, and plays? Join us for a fun filled noise making party! Learn how to equate sounds with on another and how to record them. 

**This class is included with “On The Radio.”

ON CAMERA AUDITIONS MASTERCLASS

Wednesday July 15

12pm - 1:30pm

In this new era of auditioning online there are new rules to follow. You will learn professional etiquette for being “in the room” during a virtual audition, how to stand out “on screen,” and what a self-tape should look like.

PROFESSIONAL PREP

Wednesday July 15th

You’re an actor! Now what? Ever wonder what city to move to, how to market yourself, or basically just where to start? This class is specifically geared towards any young adult going into any theatrical market, be it theatre, film, or television.

THE ACTOR'S VOICE

Thursday July 16th

1pm - 3pm

Explore the depths and range of one the actor’s most powerful tools, the voice. This class helps bridge vocal technique, voice acting, and stage performance. Learn how to strengthen your voice through breath and muscle technique, develop characters through experimenting with your vocal range, and learn how to perform without tiring out your instrument.

SKETCH COMEDY

Full Week July 20 - 24

10am - 11:30am

Explore how to create a range of sketches, from vaudeville routines to modern video shorts, all from the comfort of your home. Students will develop, write, and stage their own original comedic sketches while learning a history of sketch comedy in theatre. Think SNL! This class will include tasks away from a computer screen to allow for independent learning during instruction.

CLOWNING AROUND

Monday July 20th

12pm - 1:30pm

Learn the basics of clowning from your living room. This crash course offers the opportunity to create a personal clown character based on your natural inclinations of movement, voice, gestures, and inner feelings. Clowns need a sense of humor (duh), good comic timing, and the ability to let loose and be silly. The last part is the most important one.

LEARN STAND UP

Thursday July 21st

12pm - 1:30pm

Beginning joke writers, those who want to brush up on their skills, and everyone in between will want to take this class. Learn joke writing formulas, things to talk about (and not talk about), and timing of sets.

BACKSTAGE: LIGHTING

Wednesday July 22nd

1pm - 3pm

When on stage or on camera lighting is everything. Learn how to angle lights in your own home to make things brighter or darker, warm or cool, and how it affects the mood of the scene.

BACKSTAGE: COSTUMES

Thursday July 23rd

1pm - 2pm (Ages 9-13)

3pm - 4pm (Ages 14+)

Costuming is a major part of developing a character. Go from sketch to reality by designing a character and then finding things around your home (or yard) and ultimately dressing up like them!

SOCIAL JUSTICE: PRIVilEge IN ART

Friday July 24th

12pm - 2pm

This class is an in-depth look at what privilege means, where you stand in the sphere of privilege, and how you can use social justice in the realm of art. Learn how to discover diverse stories and reflect on how privilege is portrayed in the media.
